About the Pack

Cub Scount Pack 640, originally established November 1st, 1964, is chartered by the Escondido Loyal Order of Moose (#1874) and is part of the Kit Carson District which is within the San Diego-Imperial Council. Membership includes scouts who attend Conway, North Broadway,Reidy Creek and Rock Springs elementary schools.


Organization of the Pack

The pack is lead by a group of adult leaders & volunteer parents from each den who form the Pack Committee, as well as individuals who lead specific duties such as popcorn sales, treasurer, outings, etc. The pack is divided into dens made up of:

Tigers - 1st Grade Wolves - 2nd Grade Bears - 3rd Grade
Webelos I - 4th Grade Webelos II - 5th Grade    


Pack Meetings

Pack meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. at the Escondido Loyal Order of Moose unless otherwise scheduled. We meet on a monthly basis throughout the year. The purpose of thse meetings is to recognize scout advancements and activities during the previous month. All boys and their family members are encouraged to attend these meetings as it's a great way to support their fellow scouts.

  • Scouts sit with both their den leader and fellow den mates during the meeting.
  • Scouts uniform presentation is important. Closed toe shoes only and pants/shorts with belt loops attached.
  • Pack meeting agendas vary throughout the year, and sometimes include guest speakers, games, skits, fundraisers and projects.
  • Scouts are asked to come to the front of the meeting to be recognized for awards earned with their den leader.


Den Meetings

Dens meet twice monthly at times and locations determined by their den leader. Scouts work on achievements and electives necessary for advancement. Other activities include field trips, special guests, crafts, games and community service projects.

  • Tigers (1st grade), Wolves (2nd grade), Bears (3rd grade) and Webelos (4th & 5th grade) wear a Blue Class A uniform shirt and hat.
  • Scouts are required to bring their handbook for achievement signoff and review with the den leader.
  • Scouts wear Yellow Class B shirts for events & outings when Class A is not required.


Special Pack Activities

Pinewood Derby
All boys participate by designing, building and racing their own pinewood derby car from kits provided by the pack. The derby is competitive and action packed with all kinds of uniquely-made cars and awards. The Pack 640 winner goes on to race other Pack winners at the Council-wide Pinewood Derby at the Scout Fair in San Diego.

Scout Fair
An annual tradition held every May at the San Diego County Fair (formerly Del Mar Fairgrounds), scouts of all ages present scouting skills, activities and games highlighting the scouting experience and their scout unit.

Multiple times a year, the Pack goes family camping. All boys and their families are encouraged to attend to work on camping, cooking and outdoor skills. Camping locations include Camp Balboa, Mataguay, Agua Caliente and more. For the more adventurous, scouts attend 3-4 day camps during the summer at various BSA approved campgrounds including Camp Emerson, Catalina, Fiesta Island and Camp Balboa.

Summer Outings
During June, July and August, the entire pack participates in group activities. Recent activities include the Miramar Air Show, Lake Elsinore Storm games, Vulcan materials, bowling, sprinter/coaster trips, Old Town and more.

Scout Projects
To preserve the scouting tradition of community service, the Pack participates in projects throughout the year including food drives, I Love a Clean San Diego, Wreaths Across America and other community service opportunities when available.

Fund Raisers
The Pack raises funds through annual popcorn sales, selling of Scout Fair tickets, pancake breakfasts, cake auctions at the annual Blue & Gold banquet. Funds are used for Pack activities, awards, Class B shirts and general running of the pack.
